homophobia

being the true tale of a young gay man who was kicked to death outside a toilet in bradford ... homophobia ... up behind the bus-stop in the toilets off the street / there are traces of a killing on the floor beneath your feet / mixed in with the piss and beer are bloodstains on the floor / from the boy who got his head kicked in a night or two before // homophobia the worst disease / you can't love who you want to love in times like these / homophobia the worst disease / you can’t love who you want to love in times like these // in the pubs clubs and burgerbars breeding pens for pigs / alcohol testosterone and ignorance and fists / packs of hunting animals roam across the town / they find an easy victim and they punch him to the ground // homophobia the worst disease / you can’t love who you want to love in times like these // the siren of the ambulance the deadpan of the cops / chalk to mark the outline where the boy dropped / beware the holy trinity church and state and law / for every death the virus gets more deadly than before / homophobia the worst disease / you can’t love who you want to love in times like these.

Watching you watching me

Pan's Labrynth - if you really want to see an exceptional movie (and don't mind reading subtitles) I suggest purchasing this film which was just released on DVD on May 22nd. One of the best movies I've ever seen, too scary for small children but worth watching as a teen/family film and not just a kid's film with some adult content thrown in. Thumbs way up.

Lucky you -if you didn't pay 7 bucks to see this film. They tried to make it date friendly by mixing poker with romance and heartfelt family drama, but it ended up disappointing on both sides and seeming too long. Thumb at horizon. I recommend Rounders as better option at the rental store.

Next - Nicolas Cage is not always my favorite actor but his charactor seems rather well suited for the role this time. A man that can see just a little into the future trying to figure out how to be a good person and not hurt others around him. Thumbs up.

The Golden Man

Oscar! It's that time of year for useless awards to tell overpaid people what the box office results can not
or will not. Who love's ya baby? Almost all of the movies that got a nomination I've seen. Heck, I wouldn't be imformative if I didn't. So here's my random, useless guesses for the winners... usually incorrect cause I like good quality movies instead of blockbuster drivel.

Foreign stuff, costuming and special effects should all be won by Pan's Labrynth. Musical stuff: DreamGirls. Animation: Monster House.

Best Supporting Actress I think is a toss up, I feel Abigal Breslin is a little too young to win even though her portrayal in Little Miss Sunshine was excellant. Adriana Barraza and Rinko Kikuchi, both from Babel, will split the votes and the award will go to someone entirely less deserving.

Best Actress: There has been so much hubbub about Penelope Cruz in Volver that I think she will steal it right out from under Judi Dench in the rarely seen Notes on a Scandal.

Best Supporting Actor: Another grabbag, but I'm hoping for Djimon Hounsou for Blood Diamond or *crossing fingers* Alan Arkin as the swearing, drug abusing then DOA grandfather in Little Miss Sunshine.

Best Actor: I love Will Smith, don't get me wrong, but his charactor was comparitively bland in his feel good role in the Pursuit of Happyness. Or I suppose the deciding panel will say it looked effortless and give him the golden man. Instead I would prefer Ryan Gosling as he really made you feel torn with his crack using teacher telling his students to stay off drugs, Forest Whitaker really makes you fear the possibility of dictatorship in the Last King of Scotland, and Peter O'Toole is amazingly Peter O'Toole and then some as a dirty bird in the sleeper unknown film Venus.

Best Picture: I'm sure it has no chance against the heavyweights but I still like Little Miss Sunshine. So sue me.

Best Director: You know how sometimes when someone should have gotten something before and didn't, they give it to them later when they really didn't deserve it? I think that will be the case this time around with Martin Scorsese and The Departed. I'll keep my chin up and hope for Alejandro Gonzalez for Babel or Clint Eastwood for Letters from Iwo Jima instead... but no breathholding as I can't call in dead for work!

So there's my ten cents. Keep watchin!

Happy Valentines day suckers!

Yep I was gone... mostly due to broomball. Playing two to four times a week takes up a lot of time. That's over now though. Playoffs were this week. Needless to say my main team didn't get very far. Sad. Now we'll just play once a weekish until there's no ice. The other reasons were all work or illness/injury related. It happens.

Valentines day was spent working late, then sleeping, then working. I did get a box of chocolates though from the kid I'm a Big Sister for.... he's sweet. And geez does that boy like Old Country Buffet. Seriously now!

Oh and don't you hate when someone is supposed to meet you for lunch and they say "I can't make it cause I have to deal with my past" and then the cellphone bill shows they were traveling south at the time...ending up somewhere in Florida. Life is so funny sometimes. Even when it's not to me, it's always someone I know and usually related to hahah.

Keeping up the status quOH!

Oh and another thing....

I don't wanna hear a peep about how I don't post. Neither do you. And comments sometimes suck... for example.

Like one of those annoying Christmas letters...

SO like, Happy Holidays and all that. Mine were nice enough. Thanksgiving okay, thought I had to eat small cause I was going to more than one, turned out I ended up starving cause there was no consumable food. There was Big Brother Big Sister open house I went to with my Little which was nice. Xmas at auntie's (mom's side) was good, mom of course almost an hour late. Xmas Day different auntie's (dad's side) tasty fare. No steal a gift this year (thank gawd) but played CRL instead. I won a round in fact. The ultimate gift certificate: cash. NYE weather sucked and the drive was too long. Talk of staging a revolt for 2007/2008 but so far I don't forsee it happening to bring it back into town. No quorum at monthly poker night. Brother's birthday. He was quite snockered. The ABC trolls were a success. Soccor is finally over (at least for me) but Broomball slow to start cause there's no ice on the Lake where we play. Only practices so far, no games. SAD. Going on crazy movie marathon on Friday, can hardly wait. Sunday nights back on track (holidays were on Sundays so there was two week break). Still trying to be friends with the ex. FOr the sake of the team. I think the new thing has fizzled, it was at least weird last time we talked. Which has now been a few days. Work has been sucking and I have a bunch of training and mandatory 12 hour shifts coming up which isn't going to assist with the personal life at all. I'm burnt out.

Um, if you only knew.

I get how long after surgery?!?!

I know I sent individual emails to some of you but I thought this garnered repeating in a public forum as well!

Please click on the website below to vote against the insurance companies trying to make mastectomies and out-patient procedure. You don't have to put in your email address, even though it says it's required. Just your first and last name and zip code.

Mastectomy Hospital Bill in Congress

If you know anyone who has had a mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards. Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure. Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after surgery.

Mastectomy Bill in Congress

It takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important...please take the time and do it really quick!

Breast Cancer Hospitalization Bill - Important legislation for all women.

Please send this to everyone in your address book. If there was ever a time when our voices and choices should be heard, this is one of those times. If you're receiving this, it's because I think you will take the 30 seconds to go to vote on this issue and send it on to others you know who will do the same.

There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the "drive-through mastectomy" where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached.

Lifetime Television has put this bill on their web page with a petition drive to show your support. Last year over half the House signed on.

PLEASE!! Sign the petition by clicking on the web site below. You need not give more than your name and zip code number.

http://www.lifetimetv.com/health/breast_mastectomy_pledgehtml

This takes about 2 seconds. PLEASE PASS THIS ON to your friends and family, and on behalf of all women, THANKS.
