Limerick Day (No lie)

Limerick Day is observed on the birthday of one of it's champions, Edward Lear. The limerick, which dates from early 18th century, has been described as the "only fixed verse form indigenous to the English language." It gained its greatest popularity following the publication of Edeard Lear's Book of Nonsense (and it's sequels). -From Chase's 2004 Calender of Events

And here's a sample:

One day F. Scott Fitzgerald in gloom,
Took a lesbian up to his room,
They spent all the night,
Deciding who had the right,
To do what and with which and to whom.

-From the movie, Getting Straight, screenplay by Robert Kaufman
